Glutathione is a tripeptide comprised of three amino acids (cysteine, glutamic acid, and glycine) and is found abundantly in the body. It’s often called the Master Antioxidant because it’s been shown to help protect the body from oxidative stress and toxins and support the immune system. It’s also been shown to play a role in supporting skin health and athletic performance. While the body does produce glutathione on its own, levels can be affected by things like pollution, toxins, stress, and infections as well as poor diet and aging, so incorporating food sources and supplementing if needed can help maintain steady levels (research suggests aiming to consume about 100 to 150 milligrams per day).
Smoothies are great ways to get an abundance of nutrition in one serving. This delicious smoothie contains foods rich in glutathione such as spinach, avocado, blueberries & strawberries. An excellent addition to your weekly diet!
- 8 ounces water
- 1 scoop protein powder of your choice (optional)
- 1 handful baby spinach or 1 cup frozen spinach
- 1 cup fresh or frozen strawberries
- Half a cup cup frozen blueberries
- 1/4 of a frozen avocado
- 1 cup ice
- 1 tablespoon chia seeds
- Blend ingredients until smooth
Pour into a glass and enjoy. If desired, garnish with chia seeds. Serve immediately.
